Week Two - Blog: Video Review

1.For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
Changeux ties in human evolution to art's evolution.  He also analyzes the human brain and it's responses to different feelings such as aesthetic.  He looks at different parts of the brain and points out where the brain's activity is during these feelings.  Ramachandran gave a much better presentation. He also talks a lot about the brain and its responses to different feelings. With the Aesthetics Philosophy of the Arts video I learned about the history of the philosophers all the way back from Plato to the present time which brought me back to high school on my most favorite art class.
2. Which philosopher's theroy on aesthetics do you feel is most important? Be sure to mention the philosphers name, era (time in history), and contribtion to the aesthetic theory in your response. The idea of beauty by Plato. in the Fifth century athens Plato devoted him self to praising and exploring love, ultimately gives us a definition of beauty. He explains that it is the Form of Beauty that is the object of love. Diotima’s teachings describe a ladder of love that moves from the appreciation of singular beautiful bodies on up to the ultimate and higher contemplation of the Form of Beauty that makes it possible for us to discern individual cases of beauty at all. If we look at Plato’s theory of art, we see that he held an imitation theory of art that focuses attention on the objective properties of the work of art.
3. What do you think about Changeux and Ramachandran scientific view of aesthetics and art? What was the most interesting fact you discovered from each speakers lecture? Ramachandran made it very clear for me to understand the real point of view Aesthetics.  He goes in depth about about the brain's reaction to real life events and compares them to our brain's response to while looking at art.  I got a feel on how Changeux tied in the evolution of humans and the evolution of art.  They dig deep on the brain's activity and responses to looking at art.
4. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
yes the video and the readings are similar in a scence the book has alot more wordy detail then in the video it tells a story that viewers can follow by. the video and book talked more deeply about the art and the history and what theme the art tries to present for views to grasp what they are painting. the reading are some what clear but the videos summed up everything that i read in the book.
5. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the topics in your reading?
My opinion on the first flim brings back to the era of aesthetics. the first film drew my attention at an instant once introdcuing the idea of beauty by plato my mind immeditaly went back to high school in my second year of art class. from there i began to graps everything that the narrator in the film and the book saying. the book was very wordy but once i read along it made more scence but the movie made it much clear for me to understand what the philopsher believe was really art,.
